The workshops will be held on Sunday, Sept 18th (the rest of the conference is on Sept 19th-20th). There will be two workshop time slots with 8 concurrent sessions for each of those time slots for a total of 16 workshops. Each workshop will be priced separately, probably at $75 / workshop although that is not quite final. On Sunday evening... [read more]

About a third of the Strange Loop technical talks were recorded (and all of the Strange Passion talks). The technical talks will run first on InfoQ and will start showing up next week. I've listed the current release schedule below - the date is the anticipated week of release (not the actual date). Strange Passion talks will be out at some point in the next month or so, not sure when exactly. Nov 8 - Android Squared - Bob Lee, Eric Burke read mo... [read more]
For the last two years, Strange Loop has largely been a one-man show (other than the fantastic volunteers that pitch in during the event). This has been great in keeping expenses low and spending no time on coordination while producing a show with a strong vision. It has not been great in allowing me to get much sleep between May and October. read more

Do we have a reasonable estimate of when we can see some of the video?
Here's my question: Let N refer to the set consisting of all NoSQL database solutions. Is N a run of the mill set; or is it self swallowing? Thanks Alex for one hell of a conference!!!
Hi all, I'll be conducting interviews at StrangeLoop this week on behalf of InfoQ, and I'll be talking to several people - the current tentative lineup (always subject to change) includes (in current chronological order): * Paul King * Yehuda Katz * Hilary Mason * Adrian Cole * Chris Houser * Douglas Crockford * Dean Wampler * Josh Bloch Are there any questions which you as a member of the community would like to ask any of the people above? If s... [read more]
My favorite feature of CrowdVine is the capability of attending multiple presentations simultaneously. This will be my first multi-track conference where I can attend every session! If the programming for the space-time folding is extensible, I'd like to also request the capability of re-attending my favorite sessions. Note the implicit requirement for the decision to be deferrable until after the applicable event. Also note that any concerns abo... [read more]
Is anyone interested in getting together and talking about clojure over dinner?
Please update the choices regarding the profile question, "my other mode of transportation is..." to include the Infinite Improbability Drive, and possibly consider making it the default choice. Thanks!
I'd like to get a run in before the conference starts on Thursday AM. I'm thinking a strange loop along these lines: http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm?rid=A72045F1-B333-CF12-65C4AD2AAB590DEC If you'd like to join in, meet in front of the hotel at 6:30am. That'll allow for an easy pace and leave time for getting cleaned up and grabbing a bite.
I will be getting in late on the 13th and am looking for a couch, hotel room (to split), or any other cheap options that may be available. [UPDATE] => I have somewhere to sleep on the 13th but am still in the market for a couch or a hotel room I could split with someone for the 14th and 15th. [UPDATE 2] => Thanks for retweeting this and thanks of course to the people who agreed to let me stay with them for their hospitality. Thanks, Dw
I've added a picture with more info on parking and the Metrolink light rail stop to the travel page. Here's the pic: Also, there were some questions about restaurant options in the area. There are MANY restaurants across from the Pageant and for the few blocks to the west of the area. You can find a full list of loop restaurants here. read more

What is the best server platform / architecture supporting integration of modules written in diverse JVM languages? What about cross module AOP? Is it OSGi or something else?
I can ask one of my co-workers to pick up my pass, or is there a better way? I'll be in really late on Thu
After the Friday lunch at Strange Loop, we will be having two stellar panel discussions at the Pageant. First, we will have a panel on "Non-relational Data Stores" to explore this crazy nosql / document / key-value world we seem to be swimming in these days. Moderator: Ken Sipe (Perficient) - Ken is a well-known author and speaker with a broad set of experiences across roles and techologies. Ken is speaking about Gradle at Strange Loop. read more

As a conference organizer, I've had a number of excellent gurus that have helped me through the rough parts of running a conference (and I hope I've given some useful advice to others as well). One essential resource is the fantastic mailing list for regional Ruby conferences. They were gracious enough to allow me onto the list even though Strange Loop isn't technically apropos. Anyhow, a question came up on the list today about why you hold your... [read more]
Just finished the excellent St. Louis Day of .NET conference -- just wondering if there are any attendees who plan on going to Strange Loop 2010 as well!
Chris Houser (aka @chrishouser) is the co-author (with Michael Fogus) of the forthcoming book The Joy of Clojure. I would like to conduct a straw poll. Yeah, we have all published a web-app to Google's App Engine but has anyone put their company on it? Were you able to adapt BigTable and JPA to your requirements?
CrowdVine down? - Everytime I've tried using the browse this week it says "We're releasing a small upgrade. We'll be back in a few moments." Am I just that unlucky to be hitting those moments when it is down or is it perpetually down? Thanks, Jeff
Any private pilots in this group? I want to visit family in Frankfort, KY after the conference, and am thinking of renting a plane and flying there. Recommendations for where to rent a plane?
Got ideas for speakers? Events? Swag? Schedule? Please feed ideas to the conference computer and a better conference will be extruded on the other side. Alex
